What a great group of Girls Scout Brownies. Troop leader Colleen McKracken invited GAB to their monthly Girls Scout meeting to make a presentation about bullying. Linda Lee and James Dean led the presentation by asking the girls to introduce themselves. They then asked the girls if they had heard the terms bystander and upstander. Most had not. So, a discussion took place about what bullying is and how could the Scouts stop it. The girls all knew to tell someone, but they were excited to know that they had the power to stop bullying by becoming an upstander.

Linda then put out a group of different colored balls. She asked each girl what she liked to do. When they answered, Linda had them take a ball that represented what they like and put it in a jar. Soon, the jar was full and there was no more room for anymore balls. Then, Linda explained that if they filled their “life jar” with the good things they liked, there would be no room for the bad things.

The presentation ended with some girls volunteering to make up a bully skit using our GAB puppets. The loved the puppets and did a great job with their skit. Following the skit Linda led the girls in the GAB Upstander Pledge. Each girl received a certificate with the pledge on it. In fact, Colleen said that when her daughter got home she had to read the Upstander Pledge to her Dad.

Thank you, Brownie Troop, for inviting us. We had a great time and we loved your enthusiasm!
