Michael Turner knows plenty about bullying.<\/p>\n
He used to be one.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never realized how bad I was,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n
Now his goal is to help reduce bullying.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know now the pain that I have committed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bullies can more easily target people now than when he was young, Turner said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith social media now, we call [bullies] \u2018studio gangsters,\u2019 so now it\u2019s a lot of talk,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n
Bullies can \u201cintimidate ten people [now]\u2026 versus me having to wait for you after school.\u201d<\/p>\n
Turner supports the strategy, and has the following ideas for what witnesses could say in such a confrontation:<\/p>\n
\nWhy do you want to pick on somebody? <\/em>
\nWhat are you getting out of having this guy scared of you?<\/em>
\nObviously he\u2019s scared of you, so you already won.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\nWhen a bystander intervenes, bullying stops within 10 seconds more than 50 percent of the time, according to stopbullying.gov.<\/p>\n
