The University of Milwaukee\u2019s Zilber School of Public Health was the scene for the world premier of the anti-bully music video \u201cNo Amount of Tears\u201d. GAB helped sponsor the video, which was the idea of community activist and MC Tracey Dent. Dent\u2019s idea for the music video arose when he became aware that his daughter had contemplated suicide as a result of bullying.<\/p>\n
He wanted to do something to make a difference. The song is about hope and awareness, so that those who are being bullied can see that there is a light at the end of their tunnel. Local songwriter Quinlan Bishop helped write the \u201chook\u201d for the song, which was written and performed by two of Milwaukee\u2019s shining young stars Ebony Loren (16) and Jahbarri Bradshaw (15). The songs blend of Loren\u2019s melodic style and Bradshaw\u2019s rap style is a terrific compliment to each other. Loren said that kids are more likely to listen to a message through song or art rather than just being talked to. Bradshaw said he had been \u201cpushed around a bit in middle school\u201d, and the songs chorus \u201cbreaking me down will never build you up\u201d really spoke to him.<\/p>\n

GAB Executive Director, Linda Lee spoke about the epidemic of bullying and how devastating being bullied can me. \u201cThe scars from bullying last a lifetime\u201d, said Lee. GAB Executive Assistant, James Dean described the centerpiece of GAB\u2019s programs-creating upstanders. Dean said \u201cIf a bystander to bullying becomes an upstander in a non-threatening way the bullying will stop within 10 seconds 85% of the time.\u201d He went on to say that the power to stop bullying lies in the hands of the students to act as upstanders because the bullying is occurring in the student population not in front of administrators, teacher, counselors or parents. <\/p>\n
Both Loren and Bradshaw performed solos for the audience, which included Lena Taylor (Wisconsin State Senator), Tony Zielinski (Milwaukee City Alderman), Darienne Drive, (Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent), Reggie Moore (Director-Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention), David Muhammad (Program Manager, Milwaukee Office of violence Prevention), John Chisholm (Milwaukee County DA), Quinlan Bishop (Songwriter), parents and students.<\/p>\n
